For Bobby Lepitre, founder of Rockdale Manufacturing LLC. in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the journey began long before the company officially opened its doors. While working full-time at Walmart, Bobby spent his evenings teaching himself machining on a small benchtop mill, gradually turning curiosity into a skillset and a side business. Balancing a demanding career, single parenthood, and late nights in the shop wasn't easy, but each project brought him one step closer to building something of his own. In May 2019, Rockdale Manufacturing was established, and by May 2020, Bobby had reached the point where he could leave his full-time job behind and pursue manufacturing full-time. Looking back on that decision today, he says he has never regretted taking the leap.

"I worked at Walmart for 15 years, and every night I'd come home and teach myself machining. Eventually, I got to the point where I could support myself doing what I loved, and I've never looked back."

Today, Rockdale Manufacturing serves customers across a diverse range of industries, producing precision CNC-machined components for everything from individual inventors to advanced manufacturing companies. The shop has completed work that supports demanding industries, including projects for organizations like SpaceX, where consistency and accuracy are essential. Precision CNC machining requires transforming raw materials into highly accurate parts that meet exact specifications, often with tolerances measured in mere fractions of a thousandth of an inch. That commitment to quality has become a defining characteristic of Rockdale Manufacturing and has helped the company build lasting relationships with customers who depend on reliable, repeatable results.

Growth, however, is about far more than adding customers or purchasing equipment. When asked about the company's biggest milestone, Bobby didn't point to landing a major contract or expanding production capacity. Instead, he spoke about hiring his first full-time employee, a moment that transformed the business from a one-person operation into a company responsible for someone else's livelihood. That milestone changed the way he views success, adding a new level of responsibility and purpose to every decision he makes.

"Hiring my first full-time employee was probably the biggest milestone. At that point, it wasn't just about me anymore. I was helping support another family, and that's a responsibility I take seriously."

Like many growing manufacturers, Rockdale Manufacturing continues to navigate operational challenges while planning for the future. The business currently operates from two separate locations, with production equipment divided between shops, creating unnecessary movement and reducing efficiency. At the same time, the company's existing facility lacks adequate heating, cooling, and consistent maintenance, making the search for a new building one of Bobby's highest priorities. Rather than allowing those challenges to slow momentum, he has focused on creating greater stability through strategic planning. By working with larger customers to establish blanket orders for smaller, consistent monthly production runs, Rockdale Manufacturing has been able to maintain a steadier workflow, improve scheduling, and avoid the disruptions that often accompany unpredictable large-volume jobs.

Participation in the RAMP program has provided another opportunity for growth. Bobby joined after receiving an invitation to participate, recognizing the value of connecting with other manufacturers and entrepreneurs who understand the unique challenges of building a business. Through networking, shared experiences, and access to educational resources, the program has offered opportunities to strengthen both the business and the relationships that support long-term success. As Rockdale Manufacturing continues to grow, Bobby is also sharing the company's story—from its beginnings in a modest home workshop to the precision manufacturing operation it is today—to inspire others considering their own entrepreneurial journey.

"You have to keep learning, keep adapting, and keep moving forward. Manufacturing has challenged me every step of the way, but it's also given me opportunities I never imagined when I started in my garage."
